"Magdelena"

"Magdelena" by Teresa Shippy

Art piece created by Teresa Shippy for Beyond the Edge Fiber Artists' "Put A Bird On It!" exhibit.

Artist Statement:

"Striking a pose with her beloved parrot. Magdalena aka Frida Kahlo. Her fondness for the exotic and in so many ways the unusual. Magdelena's tireless quest for glimmers of joy included a menagerie of exotic pets, she loved dearly, perhaps because they spoke to her own sense of creaturely strangeness. Memories of seeing her fantastic dynamic body of work many years ago while in Washington, DC. I have always been in awe of her incredible diverse life, full of color and complexities. This piece is included in my homage to Frida portrait collection which was started in 2007 and continues to grow."

"Tough Old Bird"

Eileen Wintemute's piece entitled "Tough Old Bird" is shown here.

This piece was created for Beyond the Edge's "Put A Bird On It!" exhibit. This is what Eileen has to say about this piece:

"This is Roy, and you will probably appreciate this if you have a "Roy" in your life. You know the sort: salt of the earth,  worked hard to make his way through life,  sticks to old school principles.  Roy is the kind of person that I have found worth knowing. All in all, he's one tough old bird."

"Meditation with Grace"

This is Cynthia Catlin's piece entitled "Mediation with Grace.  It is part of Beyond the Edge's "Put A Bird On It!" exhibit.

Cynthia artist statement for this piece follows:

"Quiet mediation and introspection brings peace and clarity to my life. Thinking good thoughts increases joy and brings hope to the world. Basic humanity can be enriched if more people would choose to live life with compassion and grace. It is imperative to live life with a deep sense of profound gratitude. I'm thankful for my faith and the choice to be empowered by the spirit as symbolized by the white dove."
