Beyond the Edge artists creativity extends beyond fiber arts. Teresa Shippy created the lovely Art Box shown below.

Beyond the Edge Artist Teresa Shippy for has two fiber art pieces juried into the Chemers Art Gallery show, "The heART of Orange County"! The Chemers gallery is located in Tustin, California. One of those pieces, Circus Bike, received a third place award. Congratulations Teresa!

This post shows the four mug rugs created by Teresa Shippy for the Beyond the Edge Holiday Exchange. Teresa made these using ribbons, home decor fabric, sheers and a lot of fun stitching. 

The rugs measure approximately 6" x 4.5".

Artist Statement:

"Striking a pose with her beloved parrot. Magdalena aka Frida Kahlo. Her fondness for the exotic and in so many ways the unusual. Magdelena's tireless quest for glimmers of joy included a menagerie of exotic pets, she loved dearly, perhaps because they spoke to her own sense of creaturely strangeness. Memories of seeing her fantastic dynamic body of work many years ago while in Washington, DC. I have always been in awe of her incredible diverse life, full of color and complexities. This piece is included in my homage to Frida portrait collection which was started in 2007 and continues to grow."
