Mia Bloom made four post card art pieces for the Beyond the Edge Holiday Exchange. One of her post cards is shown below. It is raw edge collaged with a variety of fabrics and paper. It is also machine stitched in a grid pattern. The backing is card stock and has a printed message. The "artist friend sister" texting is also on card stock. The card measures approximately 4" x 6".

"Bird Removal"
This is Mia Bloom's piece created for the "Put A Bird On It!" exhibit:
Here is what Mia says about this piece:
"Pages from 'To Kill A
Mockingbird' and 'Bye, Bye Birdie' were laminated onto tea stained silk
organza. The final step was to cut out the shape of one bird flying away to
emphasize the title, 'Bird Removal'."

be featured on this blog.
Today’s feature artist is Mia Bloom. She hasn't decided on a title yet. Materials used are rusted fabric, denim and thread.

This piece is a part of the “Peel Away The Layers” series that I started when I was approaching my 50th birthday. I realized that I was peeling away the layers to become the woman that I am today. Underneath the layers is a slightly wonky, colorful woman.

Mia Bloom's "Summer in Wildomar" series
Recently, I finished a new series titled "Summer in Wildomar". I made the sunprint fabric in the summer while
living in Wildomar, CA so I thought it would be a good name for this series. The
sunprint fabric was made using Jacquard SolarFast dyes and Setacolor Transparent Fabric paint. The majority of the pieces are hand stitched using Valdani thread. Each piece is 8” x 10” and
stretched on a wood frame.

Becoming Me
"MY INNER SELF PORTRAIT"
![]() |
| Detail from "Becoming Me" by Mia Bloom |
A fine arts
fiber exhibit exploring aspects of self-portraiture. In this exhibit the artist
was asked to look beyond the mere physical and instead present an inner
view. The art work may reflect how the artist sees themselves at this time, or
at a formative moment in their life. Each piece reveals something unique to
the individual and at the same time, that which is universal to all.
Today we feature Mia Bloom's "Becoming Me" fiber art piece that is part of our brand new exhibit entitled "My
Inner Self Portrait".
Mia's Artist Statement - This piece is a part of the “Peel Away The Layers” series that I started when I was approaching my 50th birthday. I realized that I was peeling away the layers to become the woman that I am today. Underneath the layers is a slightly wonky, colorful woman.
This exhibit will debut at the 2015 Road to California quilt show, which will run from January 22 through 25 at the Ontario Convention Center.

| Bali Boys by Linda Anderson |
Linda Anderson's "Bali Boys", shown above, won first place.
Mia Bloom's "Underneath" and Laura Bisagna's "Pointless" were also called out for a special mention by the art gallery.
Information about the show can be found below:
The Escondido Arts
Partnership Municipal Gallery's newest show, Fiber & Art
Quilts with juror Deborah Jarchow, features a mix of ephemeral fiber
and traditional art quilts by California artists. Pieces in the exhibition such as Stephanie Bedwell's Unforeseen
Buoyancy convey the duality of the
ephemeral nature of fiber and the strength of the human spirit through fiber
vessels. Other pieces like Laura Bisagna's Pointless and Mia Bloom's Underneath explore traditional forms of quilting within modern subject
matter and with ironic wit.
The exhibition runs from August 8 through September
27, 2014 at the Escondido Municipal Gallery. The gallery is open Tues. 11:00AM - 6:00PM and Thurs. through Sat.
11:00AM - 4:00PM. Meet the artists during our opening reception on
Saturday, September 13 from 5:30 - 8:00PM. We are located at 262 E. Grand Ave. in Escondido.
