Congratulations Cynthia Catlin!

Cynthia Catlin's fiber art work was featured in the Springboro, Ohio  FiberShow '22. She was one of ten featured artists at this event. The show was held at the Springboro Performing Arts Center in September 2022.

Cynthia Catlin's Art Work on Display

We're proud to announce that Cynthia Catlin has several fiber art pieces on display as part of the "KUUMBA CONNECTIONS" exhibit at the Ohio Craft Museum.  This exhibit will run from February 6th through April 3rd.  The museum is located at 1665 West 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.  The phone number is (614) 486-4402. This looks like a fabulous exhibit, well worth seeing!

Cynthia Catlin Mug Rug

Cynthia Catlin made four beautiful mug rugs for the Beyond the Edge Holiday Exchange. One of her rugs is shown below. It is made from cotton fabrics and stitched with gold metallic thread. A place for your mug has been designed into the rug too! The rug measures 9" x 6".

This is how Cynthia describes it:

My objective with this project was to give myself permission to play and disappear in the zone of creativity during the global pandemic. I started this idea with the intention to utilize my collection of African fabrics. Intuitively, I allowed the colors and prints to speak as I picked them up and I sewed them together. I attempted to get out of my own way and just play. With no time constraints and no deadline, I pieced for several days, then I studied the results. I eliminated a few and tried a new found tilted block layout. During the observation and reflection time I hesitated but I kept believing and working and the ideas soon followed. This process was pure freedom that comes from no preconceived ideas about the final product. It was calming, cathartic and a pleasant diversion from the nation’s unrest.

Our "Say Something" exhibit will be coming down on March 30th. We hope you have a chance to get to the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe to see it before then. Here are the details:

“Say Something” will be shown through March 30, 2019 at the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe Gallery (Rancho Buena Vista).  The Gallery is located at 640 Alta Vista Drive, Vista, California. Phone (760) 639-6164. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Cynthia Catlin - "Erosion at its Best!"

This is “Erosion at its Best!” I am currently having a love affair with fabric vases. They are three dimensional, decorative, functional, and extremely addictive. This was an extremely ambitious adventure and the largest one that I have created at 28 inches tall. The silk fabric was acquired already painted and I stabilized it with a combination of Soft & Stable and Pellon. A large variety of fun beads were used for embellishment. Machine quilting was added for a textural element. More fabric vases in my future, Cynthia Catlin.

Beyond The Edge Fiber Artists have two exhibits, “My Inner Self-Portrait” and “Shaped by Fiber III”, on display this summer at the Cerritos Library in Cerritos, California.  The exhibits will begin on July 1 and run through the end of August, 2016. My Inner Self-Portrait
A fine arts fiber exhibit exploring aspects of self-portraiture. In this exhibit the artist was asked to look beyond the mere physical and instead present an inner view. The art work may reflect how the artist sees themselves at this time, or at a formative moment in their life. Each piece reveals something unique to the individual and at the same time, that which is universal to all.

Shaped by Fiber III

Shaped by Fiber III is an exhibit featuring fiber art that goes beyond two dimensional wall hangings. The works shown in this exhibit include three dimensional forms, vessels, mounted fiber art, and hanging pieces. This stunning exhibit shows numerous ways that fibers can be sculpted to create spectacular artworks.

There's a few weeks left of the “Boundless” and "Shaped by Fiber" exhibits at the Cerritos Library. Each member was given an 18” x 36” stretched canvas to use as the base of their artwork. They were allowed to have their artwork go outside the boundary of the canvas.

"Boundless" exhibit at the Cerritos Library

“Boundless” exhibit will premiere at the Cerritos Library in August and September 2015. Each member was given an 18” x 36” stretched canvas to use as the base of their artwork. They were allowed to have their artwork go outside the boundary of the canvas. In the following weeks, detailed images from each member’s artwork will be featured on this blog.

Today's feature artist is Cynthia Catlin. 

“Inner Space” - whole cloth, machine quilting, hand embroidery, extensive three dimensional hand beading were used to celebrate the quiet times of meditation and reflection.

Peace In My Heart

A fine arts fiber exhibit exploring aspects of self-portraiture. In this exhibit the artist was asked to look beyond the mere physical and instead present an inner view. The art work may reflect how the artist sees themselves at this time, or at a formative moment in their life. Each piece reveals something unique to the individual and at the same time, that which is universal to all.

Today we post a detail from Cynthia Catlin's fiber art piece, "Peace in my Heart" that is  in our brand new exhibit entitled "My Inner Self Portrait".

Cynthia's Artist Statement - This artwork reflects my desire to exhibit confidence and self-assurance in the midst of personal growth. My inner quest seeks tranquility, contentment, joy and peace. My inner spirit recognizes the value of setting boundaries, telling the truth and growing spiritually with love.

This exhibit will debut at the 2015 Road to California quilt show, which will run from January 22 through 25 at the Ontario Convention Center.

This is the 25th anniversary for Road to California and we are proud to have this venue to showcase our new exhibit.

1000 Quilt Inspirations

Sandra Sider's book, "1000 Quilt Inspirations: Colorful and Creative Designs for Traditional, Modern and Art Quilts" will be available soon, and we are proud to announce that four Beyond the Edge member's fiber art works will be included in the book: Cynthia Catlin, Linda Anderson, Teresa Shippy, and Laura Bisagna. Teresa's mini-bus art quilt is featured on the cover of the book, in the lower, right hand corner. Congratulations to all those whose work is published and especially our three artists!
