Linda Friedman
We are saddened to announce that one of our members, Linda
Friedman, has passed away. Linda was a founding member of Beyond the Edge Fiber
Artists and contributed greatly to the artistry of our group. Linda’s beautiful
art work inspired us all to stretch ourselves and create more and better works.
She was incredibly supportive of our efforts, and generous with her time or
anything else she could give. She was
often referred to as the “over-achiever” of the group, because her pieces for
an exhibit were usually the first completed. We are all grieving her loss and will remember
her well. We love you Linda.

Linda Friedman's Fabric Scrap Duck
Linda Friedman created a fanciful duck made from fabric scraps. It's a fun way to use fabric scraps that we all have laying around our studios. Check out her blog for more information on this project. Click here.

"Call to the Heart" by Linda Friedman |
This is Linda's artist statement:
"'I love you and I'll see you tomorrow", my father said as he kissed me goodbye. As we hugged, a crow called out from its perch atop a telephone wire. There was no tomorrow. An accident took my father's life. From that fateful day forward, when I see and hear a crow utter its call, I hear, "I love you and I'll see you tomorrow." Yes, Daddy. I'll see you tomorrow."

This exhibit will debut at the 2017 Road to California Quilter’s
Conference and Showcase.
This is how we describe this exhibit:
“While the theme conjures up images in the mind of the
viewer, the amazingly original art work provides insights into each artist’s
individual vision and their interpretations of the subject. The diversity of
their dreams is truly a gift.”
We hope you have a chance to see this exhibit at Road.

Linda Friedman's "Speaking Out" in "Pulse" exhibit
Congratulations, Linda Friedman! Her artwork, "Speaking Out" has been juried into the Pulse exhibit at the Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The show will run from June 17 through July 30.
Her submission is in response to their call for entry which read, as follows:
“Examine the concept of rhythm and take time to tune into the cadence of
the world around you. Adjust the tempo as you see fit and sculpt, sketch,
stipple or paint along to your own beat. Pick a song that inspires you and
we’ll share it with the world through a phone app.”
Her work was inspired by Pharrell Williams’ song, “Freedom”
that was first released in 2015.

We are proud to announce
that we will have two exhibits, “Boundless” and “Shaped by Fiber” on display at
the Cerritos Library during the months of August and September, 2015.
Our new exhibit, “Boundless” features fiber art presented
on a stretched canvas. Each artist was given an 18” x 36” stretched canvas
to use as the base for their artwork. Fiber art pieces were prepared for
the canvas and stretched around it or adhered to it. The artwork in some
instances extends beyond the boundary of the canvas. Come
and experience this extraordinary fine art.

that goes beyond two dimensional wall hangings. The works shown in this exhibit
include three dimensional forms, vessels, mounted fiber art,
and hanging pieces. This stunning exhibit
shows numerous ways that fibers can be sculpted to
create spectacular artworks.

"Boundless" exhibit at the Cerritos Library
“Boundless” exhibit will premiere at the Cerritos Library in
August and September 2015. Each member was given an 18” x 36” stretched canvas
to use as the base of their artwork. They were allowed to have their artwork go
outside the boundary of the canvas. In the following weeks, detailed images
from each member’s artwork will be featured on this blog.
Today's feature artist is Linda Friedman. She created two
pieces for this exhibit.
"Contemplation" - Piecing, fabric paint, hand
applique, stenciling, gold foiling of hand-sculpted felt leaves, and machine
quilting were used to create my representation of an idyllic state of being.

Emergence
MY INNER SELF PORTRAIT
![]() |
Detail from Linda Friedman's "Emergence" |
A fine arts
fiber exhibit exploring aspects of self-portraiture. In this exhibit the artist
was asked to look beyond the mere physical and instead present an inner
view. The art work may reflect how the artist sees themselves at this time, or
at a formative moment in their life. Each piece reveals something unique to
the individual and at the same time, that which is universal to all.
Today we feature Linda Friedman's "Emergence" fiber art piece that is part of our brand
new exhibit entitled "My Inner Self Portrait".
Linda's Artist Statement – I perceive that every life has a purpose and that over time an evolving process leads to the birth and development of dreams and aspirations. By protecting the spirit and letting it grow there can finally be an actualization and emergence of the driving forces in every unique human being.
This exhibit will debut at the 2015 Road to California quilt show,
which will run from January 22 through 25 at the Ontario Convention Center.
This is the 25th anniversary for Road to California and we are
proud to have this venue to showcase our new exhibit.
We are featuring details of each of the pieces leading up to the
show. We hope you enjoy them and have a chance to see the full "My
Inner Self Portrait" exhibit at Road. For more information about
